Remember when I reviewed the Lelo Loki recently? Sure you do. It’s here if you don’t. I remember really enjoying the Loki. The combination of smooth silicone, an easy to use control unit on the ergonomic handle and the rumbly motor made it, what I referred to as the ‘best in class’. Well I’m afraid I’m going to have to take that last part back…
I was hoping for Lelo to release a Wave version of Loki. It always made sense. They released Mona (Vagina Loki) first, the Mona Wave, then Loki… It wasn’t a reach to believe that they’d release this toy at some point. I just didn’t anticipate it so soon after the original Loki. I assumed it’d be a big release in 2016 some time, maybe a year after the original. But no, it’s here. So obviously I jumped at the chance when Lelo offered me one in exchange for a review. Now the Wave has a lot in common with the original Loki (as you would expect), but there are enough differences (other than the movement) to warrant highlighting them here.
The Loki Wave, you’ll be pleased to know, still has the same silky smooth to the touch silicone and the insertable part is the same size & shape as the original Loki. There is, however, a large perineum stimulator that is also attached at the base that contains its own motor. So the Loki Wave isn’t just a regular Loki that moves. It feels like a completely different toy. I was honestly expecting to write a very short review stating how the motions feel and not much else. A quick addendum to my Loki review that mentioned the newer version. But it really is different.
To start with, and I’d be daft to start anywhere else, the motion feels terrific. It’s similar to the Nexus Revo II I reviewed a while ago. It doesn’t feel as forceful as the Revo II and the toy moves in a ‘come here’ motion, which is different from the Revo II‘s circular motion, but it feels great. I guess it’s worth mentioning that I like having my prostate massaged. I probably massage it with my fingers more often than I use anal toys. So toys that simulate this motion are a good thing, in my book. If you’re not really a fan, then stick with the original Loki. But if you do enjoy prostate massage, and I think you will if you try, then this motion is a fantastic enhancement to an already enjoyable toy. It moves about an inch forwards when you turn it on, which sounds like a lot, but the perineum stimulator is movable so you never feel like you’re being squeezed too much.
The motors are worth mentioning, too. I remember when I first tried the original Loki, I loved the rumbly vibrations but was left wanting a little more. I’d been spoilt by bigger, more powerful vibes and wanted the same thing, which is sadly not possible (yet) in such a small package. But the Loki Wave, due to the additional motor, is noticeably more powerful. I don’t think the motor inside the main shaft is any different, but just having the additional motor rumbling next to it is enough to boost the vibrations to a level that’s noticeably rumblier.
One other big difference is the control panel. The original Loki has four buttons. Two to control the intensity and two to control the patterns. This works fine, but you always start at the same point and have to navigate through the settings until you find your preferred pattern. With the Loki Wave, there is an additional on/off button. It may sound trivial, but you don’t have to do all that fiddling about. It remembers where you left it last time. I know it sounds like such a small thing, but it makes a real difference. I rarely listen to the radio in my car. Yet, whenever I turn on the stereo, the default option is always the radio. So I then have to click to CD. I know, I know, first world problems and all that. But it’s such a small thing that annoys me every time I turn it on. Having to flick through patterns on a sex toy will probably never annoy me as much as having to click that little CD button on my car stereo, but remembering patterns is a big step forward for toys.
Finally, the handle is silicone. I know, that sounds like a small thing that’s not worth bothering about too, but it just feels so much better. The Loki has a plastic handle, as does the Billy. They’re both very nicely crafted high quality plastic handles, but the Loki Wave’s silicone handle feels so much better. Why should your genitals have all the fun of silky smooth silicone, I ask? Your hand deserves it, too!
So to sum everything up. The Lelo Loki is no longer the best in it’s class. The Lelo Loki Wave is. In fact, there are so many little improvements, one wonders why they all weren’t included in the original Wave. Particularly as they’ve been released so close together. The Lelo Loki is still a good toy, but I can’t really recommend it anymore when the Loki Wave is an option.
